Non-Denominational

Most parishioners are familiar with the more common religious denominations including Baptist, Pentecostal-Holiness, and Methodist.  In recent times, churches are appearing that are non-denominational.

Non-denominational in Christian circles may have a couple of common uses, ie, 1) a church related activity such as a worship service that is tailored to be acceptable to all denominations, 2) an association of churches that does not hold to a particular historical creed, and 3) a church without a denominational affiliation.  The latter is most common.

Although a church may consider itself non-denominational many of its practices and ceremonies are similar to those of traditional denominations.  In most instances, it's because their pastors and leadership have a history or receive their ordination in those denominations.

The information displayed in this section is a small portion of information about the churches established  in Lakeland's Black community during the first 100 years.   We know there is more.  Contact Us if you have information like pictures you don't mind sharing.
